Originating in the United States in the 1970s, modern kickboxing amalgamated various striking arts into a distinctly American concept, notably by hosting competitions within a boxing ring. Japanese karate, Muay Thai, Western boxing, the French art of Savate, and Korean Taekwondo all contribute to the evolution of modern kickboxing, gaining rapid global popularity. However, the strongholds for kickboxing were (and still are) in America and Japan.
